Bentonville Residence
Bentonville, Arkansas
Architect: Marlon Blackwell Architects
Project Phase: In Construction
This residential landscape is inspired by close proximity to the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. The minimal design uses strategies of layering to negotiate complex architectural geometries and sectional conditions. Grasses, ferns, and perennials are used in conjunction with local sandstone to create bold juxtapositions of color and texture.
The landscape responds to the expansion and contraction of the building architecture to create gathering spaces at the street, within a small courtyard, and between the house and an existing woodland. A sedge lawn reduces mowing and water consumption, emphasizing seasonal change with interplanted bulbs.
