This residential landscape draws inspiration from the native grassland ecology of Northwest Arkansas. A palette of native and adapted grasses and forbs provides a dynamic setting that changes dramatically through the seasons. The central courtyard, surrounded by glass on three sides and an open air “porch” on the fourth, is designed with minimal means for maximum effect. Water and plantings provide sensory delight and shade the building in the heat of summer. An existing woodland edge to the south of the residence is cleared of invasive species and enhanced with understory planting to provide views from the courtyard.
